Mac 'N' Cheese Burger
In this walk through I hope to give you a simple and easy recipe for a delicious meal you are sure to enjoy.
I have found this to be a delicious twist on a classic cheeseburger, by combining two American favorites mac n cheese and a cheese burger. The creamy, cheese texture of the mac n cheese really compliments the smokey flavor of the burger making it a great entree for your next family dinner.
Caution use of hot cooking surfaces necessary, use proper precautions when using hot surfaces and utensils.
To prevent food born illness make sure all perishable food is good and stored properly and all meats are thoroughly cooked.
Gather Ingredients
You will want to assemble the ingredients needed to build you ideal burger and your favorite mac n cheese. I used...
- pre-made burger patties from Sam's Club
- boxed Mac n Cheese
- Butter (amount suggested on box of Mac n Cheese)
- Milk (amount suggested on Mac n Cheese box)
- Water (to cook pasta in)
- Hamburger Buns (Whatever buns you like or use any low carb alternative)
Optional
- Sliced cheese of your choice
- Other Condiments of your choice
Utensils
- Stove top
- Grill (including a fuel)
- Metal Spatula
- Pot/ Pan (deep enough to boil water in)
- Spoon to stir Mac N Cheese
Prepare Grill to Start
Make sure your grill is ready to start by turning on your propane.
If you have a charcoal grill see here.
Start Your Grill
Turn on you burner and start your grill. For some older models or grills with some wear and tear it may take a little while to get them started.
Cook Burger Patties
In this step you should grill your burger(s) to your desired "wellness". Flip the patties every 3- 5 minutes so both sides cook evenly, you should so this for about 20 minutes on medium high heat for medium well - well done burgers.
Be aware that undercooking meats could lead to various food borne diseases.
Optional: Add Desired Cheese
Once you patties have been cooked add any cheese of your choosing.
This step can be skipped if extra cheese is not wanted. I personally used provolone and pepper jack for those who like an extra kick.
Extingusih Grill
Now that your burger patties are done make sure to turn off your grill and this includes closing off the propane tank, so you don't waste your propane.
You will also want to either wrap your patties in tin foil or put them on a warming rack, so they stay warm while you make you mac 'n' cheese.
Boil Water
Now that the burger patties are done you can get started on you macaroni so you need to get enough water to cover your macaroni noodles in a pot and bring the water to a boil.
To do this quicker I put set my stove top to high heat.
Add Noodles
Now that the water is boiling add your noodles.
Use caution so as not to splash the boiling water on yourself.
Allow noodles to sit in the boiling water long enough to reach desired texture, typically takes 5-7 minutes.
Strain Noodles
Once your noodles reach the desired texture it is time to strain them.
Using a colander, drain the noodles allowing the hot water do go down a drain.
Use cation it is easy to get burned in this stage or lose some noodles down the drain.
Mix in Other Ingredients
Add your butter, milk and cheese packets as specified on your box of macaroni.
Mix until a consistent cheesy, creamy consistency is achieved. Once it is achieved your macaroni is complete.
Turn Off Stove Top
Now that your macaroni is done you can turn off your cooking surface.
Assemble and Enjoy
Now that both your mac n cheese and burger patties are complete you can assemble your masterpiece.
Personally, I put the burger patty on the bun, then add roughly 1/3 cup of mac n cheese to each burger add any other toppings and finish it off with the top bun.
You can add any other toppings to your burger you would like to your burger (in example: Ketchup, Pickles, Lettuce, Tomato, Bacon, etc.)
You can also substitute for various styles of mac n cheese as well as burger patties in your recration.
I hope you enjoy your Mac 'N' Cheese Burgers!
