SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM

Like all my projects, I share the schematic diagram so that you can do it yourself. The schematic diagram was designed in EASYEDA, a very professional and free electronic circuit design software, we can observe the electronic components that we use for this project and their respective values.

What is TTP223B Capacitive Touch Button?

The TTP223B Capacitive Touch Button is a device that behaves similar to a pushbutton, but can be activated with little pressure.

What is the TTP223B Capacitive Touch Button for?

It can replace the traditional direct button key, which is why they are used when making electrical switches, for example, they are frequent in bathrooms and garages. They can also be useful, for example, to locate a touch button under an interactive panel, a vinyl with graphic arts, or integrated under the wood of a piece of furniture.

SPECIFICATION AND FEATURES

Operating Voltage: 2 V to 5.5 V.

Operating current: VDD = 3V, no load.

Current Consumption: 1.5 uA

Maximum current consumption: 3 uA

Temperature: -40°C to 85°C

Response time: 60ms

Response time: 220 ms (save mode)

Sensitivity can be adjusted by capacitance: 0uF to 50pF (for outside.)

Dimensions: 28mm × 24mm × 8mm

FUNCTIONING

Capacitive Sensor Touch Button Operation -TTP223B-

By default the output of the module is at logical 0 and low current consumption, when our finger or another component "touches" the position corresponding to the output of the module, the logical 1 is activated, noting this logical change through the led. If the module is not touched within 13s, it returns to low power mode.

The variation of the capacitance is the key in the operation. The sensor board and the human body act as a capacitor and therefore form a system that stores an electrical charge.

As the distance is reduced, the capacitance increases and the system stores a higher charge. This charge accumulation can be detected on the sensor board and generate a digital signal when it exceeds a certain value. This trigger signal can in turn be captured with an Arduino digital input.

The main advantage of this type of sensor is that it does not require physical contact to fire, it is enough to bring your finger 1 to 5 mm from the sensor. For this reason they are called touchless devices.

Sensitivity Adjustment

The total charge due to the effect of the electrode size and the default capacitance of the PBC can affect the sensitivity of the module. This sensitivity adjustment can be adjusted, the TTP223 B has different methods to be able to adjust that sensitivity from outside the PCB.

1.By the size of the electrode

By using a large size electrode I was able to increase the sensitivity. On the other hand I could decrease the sensitivity. But the size of the electrode must be used for effective range and the sensor can work

 2. By the thickness of the panel

Using a thin panel the sensitivity can be increased. On the other hand this can decrease sensitivity. But the thickness of the panel must be below the maximum value.

3. By the value of the capacitor

When Cs is not used for VSS, it is more sensitive, being values around 5 pF to 50 pF
