MONOLITHIC CLOCK DISPLAY/ IPHONE CHARGING STAND/ EYEGLASS HOLDER

My grandsons enjoy telling me that no one needs a clock anymore as we carry our phones with us at all times. Who Knew? You can view the time horizontally on your iPhone. Ensure StandBy is enabled in Settings > StandBy, then connect it to a power source and set it down horizontally. You can swipe left or right to cycle through different clock faces. This got me thinking, I could make a nightstand holder to view the time at a perfect angle, charge my phone, and provide a perfect handy storage place for my glasses. And what better way to honour the passage of time than to make it in the shape of a Maoi statue, those massive megaliths on Easter Island built around 1250 BC.
Supplies

      TOOLS/ MATERIALS
Scroll saw with fine blade
Dollar Store cutting board (With surrounding groove)
Epoxy glue
Sandpaper
Thin cardboard
Clear spray lacquer (optional)
pdf of Maoi head

LAYOUT

Download the pdf. It is on a 1 inch grid. Print and enlarge to the appropriate size. Trace to the cardboard and cut it out as a template. Transfer the shape to the flat part of the cutting board. Draw a base, the same width as your phone and wide enough so the head will fit on it with the front edge just touching the groove.
CUT/ SAND/ ASSEMBLE

Cut out the base and head. Sand the edges. Mix the epoxy and glue the head to the base so that the front edge of the head just touches the edge of the groove. Spray with lacquer if desired.
TIME MODE

Set your phone as described and plug in the charging cable. Place the phone horizontally in the groove so it leans against the head. Place your glasses on the bridge of the nose, folding them so the arms fit on the notch on the top of the head. Place it on your nightstand. Just tap the phone to view the time.
