MODULAR ORIGAMI JELLY FISH
Hi guys,
"KEEP CALM, GREAT THINGS TAKE TIME",
Sometimes it's hard to be calm but practice makes it perfect,
This project also didn't make it one day, it takes more than a month to complete it, a day-by-day process to complete it, finally complete it and publish,
Thanks to God for helping me to finish it,
I'm happy to share with you how I've complete it,
Let's to start DIY Jelly fish.
Supplies
- 90 GSM White A4 sheets,
- Pencil & Scale,
- Paper clips,
- Paper knife,
- White glue,
- Some cardboards,
- Paint brush.
Origami VS Modular Origami
ORIGAMI;
Origami is the art of folding paper to create shapes and figures, without using cuts or glue.
Ex: creations include planes, flowers, dinosaurs and claws.
Modular origami;
Modular origami is an art of paper folding where multiple individual paper units are folded and then assembled into a single, large structure.
Ex: create mathematical shapes like cubes, icosahedral, as well as more complex 3D objects.
Modules Overview
The folded papers called as MODULES,
These modules are used to create objects.
Marking
- In a 90 GSM A4 sheet, take the dimensions shown in the image,
- Stack 10 sheets and clip them,
- Confirm that marked sheet is in front.
Cutting
- Cut the papers over the marked lines,
- In this way, we can obtain 230 rectangular papers.
Paper Folding....
1, Half fold in lengthwise,
2, Half fold in breadth-wise,
3, Fold right side of paper to the fold line in middle,
4, Do the same, 3rd step in left,
5, turn over, fold down the flaps,
6, Fold down the right corner,
7, Fold down the flaps,
8, Do the same 6th step in left side,
9, Do the same 7th step in right side,
10, you'll end up with triangle fold in half and you are done.
To start make about 500 to 600 modules,
Don't worry about the quantity, just start folding and after couple of days you'll be accumulated enough pieces.
Pre Insertion
- Insert that folded pieces in column(one by one),
- Do this that tightened pockets of modules are just expands,
- Stack 5 modules in column.
Modules Insertion
- Always remember that, insert modules only in rows,
- Insert the left pocket of the third piece into the right arm of the first piece,
- Insert the right pocket of the third piece into left arm of the second piece,
- Follow these instructions and form structure.
Hood (or) Bell Making
- Start with 2 rows of 40 modules each,
- Then add modules upto 15th row,
- Use TYPE A modules for making hood,
- Don't forget to apply glue,
- Finally stick diameter of 8 cm cardboard.
Overall Glueing
- Glueing in every single module is disgusting work and also takes a lot of time to complete the project,
- Avoid this, I recommend overall glueing inside the structure is a good one.
Connector Making
- Start with 36 modules in each row,
- Add modules as same as up to 5th row,
- Then reduce then with modules in 3 arms in 2 pockets,
- Then add modules in normal method in 5 rows,
- Don't forget to glue it,
- Connector is in circle(bend) form,
- Stick it with hood with glue.
Oral Arm Making
- Start with 3 modules and 2 modules each in 1 & 2 nd row,
- Add modules again 3 & 2 each,
- And again add modules in the same order like 3,2,3,2,3,2...... Up to 18 cm,
- Use TYPE A modules for making,
- Don't forget to apply glue.
Tentacle Making
- Use TYPE B modules (small columns) for tentacle making,
- Insert modules one by one(column) up to 10cm each,
- Don't forget to apply glue.
Stand Making
- For stand making I use some cardboards and crackers tube(cardboard),
Stand making have lot of works, I can't explain in letters, if I try to explain it, you'll be definitely confused, but i added more images of stand making, please go through it.
Give Life to Jellyfish
- First place hood in stand,
- Then stick oral arm with connector,
- Then stick tentacles in hood circumference,
- Length of the tentacles is in more than oral arms
Finished and Modules Required
Thus jelly fish is completed in modular origami method and it requires lot of modules,
Hood making: 1440
Oral arm making: 672
Tentacles making: 520
Totally 2632 modules required to complete it.
