Symptom of Fault

Unable to open bonnet, snapped handle

The Fault

The plastic handle features a weak bonnet latch release pin which will often snap

The MK2 TTs have a release pin fixed to the bonnet handle, this pin is made from injection molded ABS plastic which is weak and often snaps rendering you unable to open the bonnet. This can be frustrating especially when occuring at inopportune moments such as a break down, service or MOT.

Audi have not addressed this fault and will simply sell you the bonnet handle complete with the same weak release pin which will snap time and time again.

The Solution

Install the X8R release pin and never worry about snapping your bonnet handle again!

The X8R bonnet latch release pin is machined from aluminium which is far stronger than the OEM to give you peace of mind. Free next day UK shipping is included!* We also offer a wide range of international shipping options for all budgets and time frames.

Our release pin is easy to install and can be fitted in minutes using a few simple tools. Follow our handy downloadable instruction guide and YouTube tutorial, both available via QR code on the product packaging or links on this page.

If your bonnet release pin has snapped

Other guides and tutorials will tell you to remove plastic trim panels however this is not necessary.

Take a wood screw (any size will do) and an electric drill, drill the screw into the flat section where the pin has snapped in the housing. Once firmly in place use a pair of pliers to grip onto the screw and pull the pin out of the housing.

If installing as a preventative measure

Simply pull on the handle until it is removed, the pin should be fully in tact.

If your bonnet release pin has snapped

There will be the base of the pin remaining in the handle. Remove the piece of plastic at the bottom of the handle, this piece locks the pin into place. Take a small, flat head screw driver to pry the base of the pin out of handle.

If installing as a preventative measure

The pin should be fully intact. Remove the piece of plastic at the bottom of the handle, this piece locks the pin into place. Take a small, flat head screw driver to pry the pin out of handle.

Press in the new X8R release pin. The fit is designed to be tight, so if it cannot be pressed in by hand use a rubber mallet to lightly tap it into place. Reinstall the locking component.
