MK: DIY Survival Kit

Make your own survival kit for dangerous situations or for camping and be ready to face whatever nature may throw at you!,

This kit can come handy for anyone that likes to spend their time in nature. Fishers, hunters, campers, hikers but also people that live their whole life in a city. Simply, anyone that wants to be ready.

I´m using strike anywhere matches, so I don´t need separate striker. I´m dipping them in a melted wax several times, letting the wax at least partialy harden before next dip. This makes them waterproof. Just sratch off the wax before use.

I poured salt and sugar into small zip lock plastic bag to prevent the moisture getting in. Salt is good for replenishing minerals lost with sweat during physical activity, sugar with 380 kcals in 100 grams will balance your calorie usage. They can also serve important purpose of making emergency meals taste good. Especially in survival situations you sometimes find yourself eating stuff, that you otherwise won´t even touch.

Pencils can be used for taking notes, drawing maps, or for leaving messages to you rescuers. Sharpen both sides of your pencil, to last you twice as long. Also some piece of paper to write on is useful.

I have this whistle, that consists of compass, magnifying glass and thermometer. Whistle can be used for contacting rescuers or to scare away dangerous animals. Magnifying glass is the most useful when removing a splinter and compass and thermometer for obvious reasons.

Charcoal is great for treating stomach sicknesses, plaster for minor injuries and blisters. Add other medicaments according to your individual needs, for example some anti-allergy medicines and such.

I had very small knife to put in my kit, but skalpel, exacto blade or anything similar is great too, because you can always fashion some improvised handle.

Fishing line and hooks are essential part of your survival kit. Take at least five small hooks with you and make sure you know how to tie a fishing hook. With small hooks you can catch both big and small fish. I would go for line with diameter about 0,18mm

Small kit of needles and threads for repairing your clothes and such are very important part of your survival kit. You can even add some buttons or safety pins. Learn how to sew in home and you will be able to repair even some major defects of your equipment.

Wire can be used not only for tiing things together, it can also be fashioned into snare for catching smaller animals.

In wilderness it´s sometimes ipmortant to carry larger amounts of wather. Condom is small for storing, but it can carry up to one liter of water.

My kit has a metal lid. I polished it with a cloth and a polishing compound and made a heliograph. It´s device to reflect and aim sunshine to ships, planes, or whatever other form your rescuers might be in.

I put all my survival stuff in small metal can and sealed the lid with electrician vinyl tape. Not only will it be waterproof, you can also reuse the tape if necessary.

is a good alternative to matches because it´s light and it works well in wet enviroments as well.

PERMANGANATE

mainly for water sterilization and wound desinfection, but also as a cure for some diseases.
