STAGE 5 (MOUNTING ON STAND).jpg

I have created a mask out of paper clay for my College assignment.

Supplies

Paper Clay,Newspaper,Tape(not necessary),Clay tools(not necessary),Brushes,Paint,Primer.

THE BASE

Crush a newspaper into the shape of a mask to act as a base. The size of it could be anywhere between 5 to 6 inches.Tape the base to your workspace to prevent it from moving while shaping the mask.

PAPER CLAY

Press/shape the paper clay to cover the base created. The thickness of the clay base on the paper base can be anywhere between 4mm to 5mm or the size you prefer.

SHAPING

STAGE 1.jpg
STAGE 2(AFTER DRYING).jpg

Shape the mask of your choice.Let there be eye-holes and try to add some extra details. You can let your mask dry and then start painting.

In my submission I have tried to recreate the mask from the movie 'The Mask'. I have added details like scrapes on the mask to give it that woody texture. Created small balls out of the paper clay and affixed them on the wood-colored piece to make it look like nails.

COAT & PAINT

STAGE 3 (AFTER PRIMER).jpg

Coat the mask with a layer of primer using a brush and let it dry completely. Paint the mask with colors of your own choice. Try to add details that create some texture in the mask.

END PRODUCT

stage 4 (painting).jpg
STAGE 5 (MOUNTING ON STAND).jpg

Let the paint dry and there you have your very own paper clay mask. You can mount it on some stand as i have in my submission.

You can create holes on the mask to tie strings and turn it into a wearable mask.
