MAKE YOUR OWN CARD TRICK

JACK WHO? - Magic Tricks for Kids

Here's a do-it-yourself card trick you can make on a rainy day.

What You'll Need

Snapshot 1 (24-May-17 11-35 AM).png

Take three cards from a deck you no longer use.

Make sure one of them is a Jack.

You will also need a pair of scissors, a glue stick, a ruler and a picture.

The picture can be obtained from Google Images, and can be of Jack & the Beanstalk, Jack Frost or anything pertaining to a Jack. I've chosen a picture of a Jack Russell puppy.

Make sure the picture you choose will fit nicely onto a playing card.

Scoring the Cards

Turn the Jack face down and place your ruler across the centre of its back.

With one arm of your scissors, lightly score across the back, using the ruler as a guide.

Repeat this action with one of your other cards.

Bending the Cards

Take the two cards you've just scored, and bend each one in half.

Squeeze the halves together a few times so that the card opens and closes quite easily.

Glueing the Cards Together

Apply glue to one half of the back of each of the two cards.

Carefully line up the backs of the two cards, and press them together as the first photo shows.

You now have a card with a flap, which can be moved to change the face of the card from a Jack to something else (see second photo).

Glueing the Backing Card

Take the remaining third card, apply glue to its face, and paste it onto the back of your 'flap' card.

Make sure that all the edges of the backing card are flush with the edges of the 'flap' card.

Glueing the Jack Picture

The Jack picture you prepared, is now glued to the back of your special card.

Place the completed card under pressure (perhaps a heavy book) for an hour or so until the glue dries.

The Finished Card

When the glue is dry, you'll have a card that can change from a Jack to something else.

The reverse of the card will have your special 'Jack' picture.

Performing

Hold the card with the Jack showing, and your finger across the centre crease. (You want the card to appear as normal as possible.) The thickest part of the card should be at the top.

Under cover of your hand, move the flap down and show the alternative card. Again, cover the crease with your finger.

Stating that "many people think the Jack is on the back", turn the card over to show your special picture.

So now, you've prepared and performed your very own card magic.

I hope it's provided you with some information and fun.
