Lunch Blox

Everyday, thousands of kids bring food from home to school and eat lunch. We are still in a pandemic, and many ways that students can get sick with COVID-19 is through transmission by touching their face and spreading germs. When they eat, their mask that they have to take off gets all dirty and full of germs. I also noticed that many kids are not getting the nutrition they need, and hopefully with the COVID Safe Bento Box, they would have to put food in all the sections to ensure a healthy lunch meal

Supplies

I used Fusion 360 to create a model of the Safe Lunch Box.

Inspiration

I was inspired by Japanese Bento Boxes, lunch containers made for bringing food to school in a neat, organized way. The dividers allow a variety of food to be packed, and in the second picture, some boxes have utensils incorporated in them as well.

The Sketch

I created a rough sketch to refer to when modeling in CAD. The colors represented the different layers I planned to make, three in all.

Started Modeling in Fusion 360

I started with the first layer, where the food would be stored. To include the types of food people eat, I added grooves around the container so that the dividers could be moved around to make a variety of different sized sections. Then, I added the second layer, with a divider for the chopsticks and a place to put the mask. Lastly, I created the lid, with a handle and a place for the hand sanitizer to reside in. The whole box is made of bamboo.

Render and Model

I put the Lunch Blox on a table, along with the hand sanitizer, water bottle, and utensil. By putting the Lunch Blox on the table, the water bottle can also be used as a scale to judge how tall the Lunch Blox is.

Conclusion

Creating the Lunch Blox had some challenges and problems, but making it overall helped me understand how to use Fusion 360 better. By figuring out how to model some parts, render the box, and style it, helped me learn the different functions of CAD. If the Lunch Blox were to materialize, I believe it would be very helpful and beneficial for students to use during lunch as a way to keep everyone safe.
