Introducing a new era of lighting: under the radiance of bio-material desk lamp, sustainability and innovation collide. I have responded to the need for environmentally friendly solutions in the world by providing a workspace light that not only illuminates your desk but also illuminates the path to a more environmentally friendly future.

  1. Use a corrugated cardboard to make the mold.
  2. Cut the cardboard with a length of 181mm and a height of 220mm.
  3. Ensure the box is clean and dry before use.
  4. Round the cardboard and stick it together using any glue, etc. glue gun.
  5. Once the cardboard is rounded it will form 110mm in diameter.

Prepare the Bio-Degradable Mixture

  1. Combine 3 cups of sawdust with 2 cups of flour in a mixing bowl.
  2. Stirring constantly, gradually add water until the mixture takes on the consistency of a thick paste. Make sure the mixture is lump-free.

Attach Mixture to the Mould

  1. Attach the mixture to the mold, while ensuring smoothness throughout.
  2. The box is not strong enough to hold the material. I took a blue glass to give it more strength and placed it on the inside of the mold box.
  3. The mold is now balanced, and the bio-degradable material will not fall off the mold when drying.

Allow to Dry & Remove the Mold

  1. After finishing adhering the mixture, give the structure time to completely dry. Depending on the environmental factors and the thickness of the layers, this could take a few hours or even overnight.
  2. Once the material is dry, remove the box mold from the inside.

Finishing Touches

  1. The light was strong enough after 4-5 days, so I drilled holes and created designs on the sides.
  2. Sand any uneven edges using sandpaper.
  3. Attached felt material for the aesthetics of the luminaire.
