These are instructions for the simple loop around method for tying shoe laces.

Precheck

Make sure that your shoe laces are free of tangles and properly laced through the eyelets of the shoe.

Pull each section of the shoelace to the desired snugness. Then pull the ends of the lace to ensure snug fit.

Wrap the right end of the lace in a full circle around the left end to form a simple knot.

Pull both ends of the lace to ensure the shoe is snug.

Form a loop, or single bunny ear, with the lace on the right side.

Loop the left side of the lace around the loop on the right side. Ensure that there is a space under the left lace as we will need that space in the next step. Note the top of the left lace which has been wrapped around the right loop and proceed to the next step.

Pull the top of the lace which you noted in the last step through the hole mentioned in the last step. This will begin to form the second loop of the classic tied shoe.

Pull both loops tight.

To untie the laces, simply pull on one of the loose ends.

If desired, you can then tie both loops into a simple knot. This is known as "double-tied" or "double-knotted" and will ensure that the lace is less likely to come untied by accident. This is common if the laces are thick, as on hiking shoes, or if the tied laces are longer than desired.
