Longboard DIY

If you really want a longboard but don't want to pay $60 for one, then make one for less! You can buy all the supplies you need (not including the tools you'll need) for $35-$45!

I glued two 1/4 inch thick birch plywood. My doubled up board measured 36in by 10in. I cannot provide a cutting template for such a large scale project but you could just as easily fold a big piece of paper in half and draw half of your deck design, cut it out, and unfold. Once you have your template, tape it to your wood (I actually used spray adhesive for this but I found it very hard to get all the sticky bits off my deck later) and cut it out with a jig saw or band saw.

I sanded both sides of my deck with 80 and 240 grit and then sanded the face of the deck with 320 and 400. I wiped all the dust off my deck and applied 4 coats of polyurethane to the face of the deck allowing each one 4-5 hours to dry.

I bought a 10in by 48in sheet of black diamond grip tape. I applied it to the back of my deck and trimmed all the excess with a razor blade.

I put on both of my trucks and wheels. I also used a spacer between the trucks and the deck to keep the wheels from hitting the deck while turning. Please follow and comment!
