Lipstick Rollup
I don't know about you, but I carry a lot of lipstick. It's all jammed in one tiny bag, and I really have to dig for the color that I want. All the tubes are jumbled together, so not only do I not know what colors I have, as I dig, they usually end up spilling out of the bag. This is why the lipstick rollup is such a great idea. You can see what you have, access it easily, and the rollup fits in the side of your bag (prime real estate that rarely gets used.)
Want one? Follow these easy steps to make your own lipstick rollup.
Cut Fabric Pieces
Take an old bed sheet, and cut four (4) 10" x 14" squares using a cutting mat, ruler, and rotary cutter.
Iron Pieces
Press the four cut pieces flat.
Pin
Lay the four pieces on top of one another to create a sandwich and insert pins around the outer edge to hold in place. Make sure the top two pieces on the stack are laying with the "right side" (patterned side) facing each other.
Sew
Begin sewing a seam around the outer edges of the stack, staying about 1/4" from the edge of the fabric.
Finishing Sewing
Sew almost the entire way around the square, but be sure to leave a two to three inch opening on one edge so you can turn it right side out.
Clip Corners
Using a pair of scissors, clip the corners of the square to ensure that the piece lays flat. Stay about 1/4" away from the seam.
Turn It Right Side Out
Gradually start pulling material from the inside of the pocket to the outside. It will take some time, and it will look like a big bunch, but eventually all the material will come through the opening and you will have a flat square facing right side out.
Sew It Closed
Using a needle and thread, use a ladder stitch to close the opening.
Cut Velcro
Take an eight inch strip of two-sided, peelable backed velcro and cut it into eight, 1" pieces.
Stick Velcro
Peel the back of each side of one piece, adhering the hook side to the lipstick and the loop side to the fabric. Repeat eight times.
Start Sticking!
Peel the back of each side of one piece, adhering the hook side to the lipstick and the loop side to the fabric. Repeat eight times. Now you're ready to adhere your lipsticks to the rollup.
Finished!
Your rollup is ready! Use an extra piece of fabric to tie it closed and slip it in your bag.
