Lily Pad Spin

Lily Pad Spin is another ride in Froggy World, the amusement park for adventurous frogs.

This ride, designed by my wife, is for the "family" frog.  Mom, pushes a stroller of tadpoles while Dad manages the older siblings.  Frogs have a choice of riding the "spin" or sitting atop the bouncing spring.

Mechanical parts--motor holder, spring holders and lily pad rotating base were 3d printed, files here:

Start with the printed base and add a Jameco (#155821, jameco.com) gear motor.  This press fits in the base.

Using 4 inch by 6 inch by 1/4 inch plywood, I glued together the sides of a box.

Add two pieces of 1/2 inch plywood (one for the bottom, one to elevate the motor).

Using wood screws, mount the motor.

Make a top using 6 inch by 6 inch by 1/4 inch plywood.  Cut a large hole in the center.  Fasten this with two small screws.

Paint the box.

Title the ride and add baked clay lily pads.

Place the 3d printed "wheel" on the shaft of the Jameco motor.

Make a lily pad and frogs using clay.  Bake the frogs.  Glue the assembly to the rotating base.

Take a .44 inch by 10.25 inch by .04 inch spring and cut it in half. 

Insert each half in a 3d printed spring holder--tilting the spring at an angle.

Glue clay frogs on the ends and screw the holders to the top of the box.

Make and bake Mom and the tadpoles.

Make and bake Dad and the two kids.

Apply 9 volts to the motor and let the ride commence!
