Lil' Baby Bear

Lil’ Baby Bear, made specially for Milai who will be leaving to the Philippines. She is my dear colleague that will be giving birth to her first baby in a few months time. Lil’ Baby Bear is one of my baby shower farewell gift for her. Look at those adorable eyes staring at you. Don’t you want to make this baby bear for yourself too? The size of Lil’ Baby Bear is approximately 4 x 4.5 inches. This cute little crocheted plushy makes a good gift for all mothers, mothers to be, baby shower gift, etc.

Materials:

Yarn(s) - Off-White, Light Blue and Light Yellow 8ply Acrylic Yarn.
Crochet Hook - Size 3.0mm
Yarn Needle
Tapestry Needle
Light blue tapestry thread.
Fiberfill
1 pair of 8mm Safety Eyes.
Small piece of White Felt.
Fabric Glue.
Stitch Marker or Safety Pin
Note: This pattern works in continuous rounds (instead of joined rounds).

Abbreviation:
MR - Magic Ring
sc - Single Crochet
2 sc in next sc - Increase
dec 1 - Decrease
Ch - Chain
Sl St - Slip Stitch
* * - Repeat Step
F/O - Fasten Off

Head:
Off-White Yarn.
Rnd 1: MR, sc 6 in MR. (6)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12)
Rnd 3: *sc 1, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat around. (18)
Rnd 4: *sc 2, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat around. (24)
Rnd 5: *sc 3, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat around. (30)
Rnd 6: *2 sc in next sc, sc 4*, repeat around. (36)
Rnd 7: *2 sc in next sc, sc 5*, repeat around. (42)
Rnd 8-15: sc around. (42)
Rnd 16: *dec 1, sc 5*, repeat around. (36)
Rnd 17: *dec 1, sc 4*, repeat around. (30)
Rnd 18: *dec 1, sc 3*, repeat around. (24)
Start stuffing with fiberfill.
Rnd 19: *dec 1, sc 2*, repeat around. (18)
Rnd 20: *dec 1, sc 1*, repeat around. (12)
Rnd 21: *dec 1*, repeat around. (6)
Add on fiberfill to stuff the entire head.
F/O and leave a long end for sewing to Body.

Body:
Light Blue Yarn.
Rnd 1-5: Same as Head pattern (refer to top).
Rnd 6-8: sc around. (30)
Rnd 9: *sc 4, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat around. (36)
Rnd 10-12: sc around. (36)
Rnd 13: *sc 4, dec 1*, repeat around. (30)
Rnd 14: sc around. (30)
Rnd 15: *sc 3, dec 1*, repeat around. (24)
Start stuffing with fiberfill.
Rnd 16: *sc 2, dec 1*, repeat around. (18)
Rnd 17: *sc 1, dec 1*, repeat around. (12)
Rnd 18: *dec 1*, repeat around. (6)
Add on fiberfill to stuff the entire body.
F/O and leave a long end for sewing to Head.

Arms: (make 2) per bear
Off-White and Light Blue Yarn.
Starting with white,
Rnd 1: MR, sc 6 in MR. (6)
Rnd 2: *sc 1, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat around. (9)
Rnd 3: sc around. (9)
Change color to light blue.
Rnd 4: sc around. (9)
Rnd 5: *dec 1, sc 1*, repeat around. (6)
Rnd 6-8: sc around. (6)
Stuff fiberfill.
F/O and leave long end for sewing to Body.

Legs: (make 2) per bear
Off-White Yarn.
Rnd 1: MR, sc 6 in MR. (6)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12)
Rnd 3: sc 1, *sc 1, 2 sc in next sc* repeat 4 times, sc 3. (16)
Rnd 4-5: sc around. (16)
Rnd 6: *sc 1, dec 1* repeat around. (11)
Stuff legs with fiberfill.
F/O and leave long end for sewing to Body.

Ears: (make 2) per bear
Off-White Yarn.
Follow Legs Patten exactly.
F/O and leave long end for sewing to head.
Flatten the circle. Do not stuff.

Pacifier:
Light Yellow Yarn.
i)
Rnd 1: MR, sc 6 in MR. (6)
Rnd 2: *sc 1, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat around. (9)
Sl St in the next stitch. F/O and tie a knot.
ii)
Ch 5. Use this ch and slot it into MR-hole.
Tie a knot to secure both end of the chains together.

Milk Bottle:
Light Yellow and Light Blue Yarn.
Starting with light yellow,
Rnd 1: MR, sc 6 in MR. (6)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12)
Rnd 3-8: sc around. (12)
Rnd 9: *dec 1, sc 1*, repeat around. (9)
Change color to light blue.
Rnd 10: *sc 1, 2 sc in next sc*, repeat around. (12)
Rnd 11-12: sc around. (12)
Start stuffing with fiberfill.
Change color to light yellow.
Rnd 13: *dec 1, sc 1*, repeat around. (9)
Add on fiberfill to milk bottle.
Rnd 14: *dec 1*, repeat around. (6)
F/O, leave a long end and close up the hole.
Continue using the long end to sew onto the blue part stitching from Rnd 12 to 10 of the milk bottle in down and up motion. The sewing will keep the bottle in shape.


Assembling: (Refer to picture)
Sew the ears to top of the head. (Placement of ears: 5 sc from center of head)
Using fabric glue, attach safety eyes onto face.
Using white felt, cut out an oval and use light blue tapestry thread to embriodery the bear’s nose. Fabric glue white felt onto the face.
Fabric glue pacifier onto the mouth area.
Sew the body to the head.
Sew the arms on each side of body.
Sew the legs to the body.
Lastly, sew on the milk bottle on either side of the arm (whichever you prefer).

And Congratulations, your Lil’ Baby Bear is complete!
