Light Up Skyline Greeting Card

Create a twinkling light-up skyline greeting card.

• 1/2 sheet white card stock
• 1/4 sheet black card stock
• Conductive copper tape
• LED stickers (shown in this project are Chibitronics)
• Small binder clip
• 3V battery

1. Fold your 1/2 sheet of white card stock in half to create a card.
2. Cut skyline out of black card stock. You can draw a simple skyline, print one from online and trace it, or go all-out like we did and design one to be cut on a Silhouette Cameo cutter. The important part of these instructions is the inside of the card, so I'm trusting you to make a killer skyline on your own.
3. Glue your skyline to the front of your card.

1. Our battery/switch is going to be in the lower-left corner, so fold about 1.5 inches of that corner diagonally.
2. To get the placement right, place a pencil in the middle of the folded dog-ear to make a mark on each side.
3. Also mark where you would like your lights to go. Use as many or as few as you wish. I went for a single star in my sky.

1. Using the marks in the lower left corner as guide, we'll lay down two parallel lines of copper tape.
2. Start with the left mark and place your tape moving up. Move towards the locations where you would like your LED lights. Our copper tape lines will straddle the marks made for light placement, so make sure this tape line goes slightly above all the marks you made. Make sure the copper tape is in a continuous line.
3. Create your other copper tape line, starting from the other mark in the corner. The pieces of tape in this corner should be staggered. This tape will run below any marks you made for lights.
4. Make sure your lines run parallel and do not touch. The LED stickers you have need to span the gap between them, so space them accordingly.

1. Place your LED stickers where you marked them out.
2. Make sure each metal contact on the bottom of the sticker touches one side of your copper tape. The sticker needs to connect your parallel lines.
3. All LED stickers need to point the same direction (with the + and - sides matching).

In your lower left corner, place a battery on the right copper tape and fold the corner over. Now, each side of the battery should have one piece of copper tape touching it. When the +/- sides of the battery match the stickers, your LEDs will light up! Clip the battery in place with a binder clip to keep the lights on.
