Light Up Flower Crown

This was my first flower crown build and I must say they are very fun! I thought adding lights would be a nice addition and found the perfect size string lights at Michaels so no technical skills needed for this project! ; ) I made this as a gift and adding the lights was super easy!

You can customize these with your own flowers and colors, Special occasions... 4th of July, Christmas...so many possibilities!

Supplies Needed:

Materials:

• Flowers ( I used synthetic flowers from Michaels, they have a huge selection and are usually on sale)
• String Lights (I got mine at Michaels, they are called: Heidi Swapp - Marquee Love Collection - Light Strand. They are not currently available online but you can check them out here, this website states they are coming soon. If you live near a Michaels store you should be able to find them there, picked mine up for $4.99)
• 2 AAA Batteries (If your using the same lights)
• Floral Tape ( I used Ashland Floral Tape, you can find the same kind here)
• Wire ( I used Ashland Coiled Wire, picked mine up at Michaels, you can find a similar kind here)

Tools:

• Scissors
• Wire Cutters ( You kind find a pair here)

Notes:

*You can substitute electrical tape for floral tape if you don't have any but the floral tape comes in handy and is very easy to work with.

*The whole project cost about $15 total and I was able to get everything at Micheals, and still have materials left over to make a few more crowns (minus the flowers & lights)

The first thing to do is to size your crown.

I recommend going slightly larger than you think as the crown will feel smaller once you add all of your flowers. I also recommend thinking about where you want your crown to sit on your head to determine the size.

Cut your wire with your wire cutters.

Twist the ends together to create a circle.

Use the Floral tape to cover the closure. Covering the ends will keep them from poking you in your head : ) This was my first time using floral tape and I really liked working with it. It does not feel sticky to the touch but once you press it down it creates a nice bond.

Once the base is created you can begin adding your flowers.

I used 4 different types to create this crown, but this part is where you can have fun picking out your design!

To add the flowers you just want to cut them from the bunch using wire cutters. I left about 2-3 inches of stem on so I had room to twist them onto the crown.

When you have your design ready you can start attaching them. I twisted the flowers on one at a time and secured them with floral tape.

Repeat this process until all of your flowers are attached.

Now the fun part, adding your lights!

I found these string lights at Michaels with the Marquee supplies and they are perfect for this project! They have tiny bulbs (smaller than christmas lights) and the strand was the exact size for this crown!

They require 2 AAA batteries and the battery pack is pretty small and you can hide it with extra flowers or more floral tape if you don't want it to be seen.

I started by attaching the battery pack. I attached to battery pack to the crown using floral tape. I recommend using new batteries to extend the wear time before having to take off the battery pack in order to switch them out.

Then just wrap the light around the crown until they are fully incorporated and tack down the wire in a few areas using the floral tape to keep them in place.
