Light Paint Photography

What is light paint photography? Light paint photography is drawing with light by using a light source (a flashlight) and a camera with a low ISO and slow shutter speed. Light painting has been around for many years, dating all the way back to 1889. Too achieve this form of photography you will need a camera, a light source (flashlight), a tripod (or flat surface), and a dark space. Light Painting can be done alone, but may be easier to do to with two people.

Set Your Camera

You are going to need to change your camera settings. make sure that you have your camera set in M (manual) mode, a low IS0 (100-200) and a slow shutter speed (15-30 seconds) to achieve the best results.
Choose a Location

Make sure you choose a dark space with no light, you will find that you will achieve best results this way.
Set Your Camera Up

It is very important that you use a tripod or a flat surface. To achieve best results you are going to need to level your camera on a flat surface. If you don't have a tripod any flat surface like a desk will work. Make sure that your camera is sturdy and won't get bumped. To make things easier, you may want to have someone press the shutter-release button for you.
