Level Bracelets

A long time ago I found a tiny level in a second hand open air market. I didn't buy it, sadly, and because of that I was obsessed with it until I found a pack of these on internet and I bought it!

So after a lot of thinking I had the idea to turn a level into a bracelet.

Now I hope you enjoy this Instructable!

I will show you how to make two versions of this bracelet. If you have any doubts, do not hesitate to contact me :)

MATERIALS:

- A small level

- Jumping Rings

- Chain

- Clasp

- Eye Pin Finding

- Bead Caps

- Ribbon Crimp

- Leather Strap

TOOLS:

- Pliers

- Gimlet

- Cutter / Scissors

- Hammer

The first thing you need to do is to prepare the level. At this stage you will need two eye pin findings, two bead caps and some glue.

Let's start by preparing the bead caps: take a bead cap and with your fingers open the edges a bit. You can also put the bead cap on the level and press a little to open them (as shown on the first picture)

Then place them on a straight surface and level them with a hammer or something flat and hard, in order to get a flat piece. As you can see on the picture, I used a glue stick.

Then, take the eye pin findings. Bend the loop with the pliers, forming an "L" shape.

Take the level and put some glue on one side. Place the eye pin finding on top of it. Then pass the bead cap through the eye pin finding and press it onto the level so it gets glued on. Let it dry.

Once it's dry, repeat this step on the other side of the level. Unfortunately, as we've already glued one side, the level will not stand on the table.

To glue the pieces onto the other edge of the level, I placed it on my pliers to keep it upright and I repeated the previous step (glueing the eye pin, passing the bead cap through the eye pin finding and pressing firmly).

There is also an alternative method. Instead of using a big bead cap you can use a small one. By doing this, you can hide the cap on the level's side. In this case you'll need to glue the eye pin finding and then pass the small cap through the eye pin.

The advantage of using a small bead cap is that you don't need to prepare it beforehand, you can glue it directly onto the level.

Once the caps are dry, you need to plie the edges to make a nice finish. I did this with my fingers and then I rolled the level on the table to make it smooth and regular.

Once the glue is dry (whatever method you may have used), take some cutting pliers and cut a small section of the eye pin finding. You'll need to make a loop out of it, so don't cut it too much!

Then, with the pliers make a loop out of the eye pin finding as shown in the pictures.

If you want to make a bracelet with chains: make two holes on the edge of the leather with a gimlet.

If you prefer it without chains: make a hole on the middle of each side of the leather strip.

MEASURE YOUR WRIST'S LENGTH AND CUT THE LENGTH OF LEATHER YOU NEED BEFORE ATTACHING THE CHAINS TO THE LEATHER.

TO SIMPLIFY THINGS, LOOK AT THE SCHEMA AND AT THE PICTURES

If you want to make the chain bracelet, attach the chain by inserting two jumping rings in each of the holes you've made.

TAKE A LOOK AT THE OUTLINE

Then attach the level to the chain using the loop you've made. Repeat this step to attach the chain onto the other side of the leather strip.

If you're making the chainless version, attach the level directly to the leather using the holes you made previously. To do that, insert a jumping ring on the hole and then join the level to the jumping ring and close it with the pliers (see outline).

(The following step is for both versions)

Now you have a round bracelet but your hand doesn't fit. So take the scissors and cut the leather strip in two parts. Try to be accurate and cut the leather in half.

Attach the ribbon crimps to both sides of the leather strip. To do so, place the ribbon crimp on the edge, add a drop of glue and close them with the pliers.

Attach a jumping ring on one ribbon crimp with a clasp. Add a jumping ring to the other ribbon crimp.

And you're done!

Now you can always know if you are leveled or not! I must admit this little bracelet it is quite useful when you're bored... :p
