Lesson 6: Clay Dog
Hello there, hope you're doing well.
In today lesson I we'll be aiming to teach you how to create a small dog out of clay and wire.
Which can sound a bit more challenge than the other lesson I made. But when done you have a great figure dog you can display anywhere in your home.
Don't worry if this seem to be more advance than the other lessons. From doing all the other lessons so far you have the skill to do this lesson well.
Supplies
- Pliers, All-purpose:
- wiring:
- clay:
- paints:
- tinfoil:
Step 1: Create the Wire Body Base
Using pliers cut and shape the wiring to form the body. Using wire well help to give a more solid body you can shape before the clay better. Don’t worry about getting it wrong as you can’t do. You can shape it as many times as you need to till you get the look you like.
Step 2: Wrap the Body in Tin Foil
By wrapping the body with tin foil your helping to strengthen the body wiring more, mainly if it still flimsy.
But you can add more to some parts of the body if you need to. Such as having the legs being wider or having a bit of a belly on the body.
Don’t worry if it looks off in places as you can add as much tin foil as you like to get the look your happy with.
Step 3: Apply the Clay
Once you’re happy with the body's look and shape you can start to apply the clay to the body.
Try to keep it thin so you can layer it easier, rub the clay together to help make it all smooth.
If you wanted to add details to the body like tuff of fur, eyes or claws then add them now before the clay hardens.
You can use ether clay tools or a solid but thin piece of plastic to add the details.
Depending on the type of clay be it quick dry or wet clay well depend how long you need to wait for the next part.
Don’t worry if the clay rips or look uneven in places, just add more clay or replace it.
Step 4: Painting Your Dog
When the clay has finish drying you can now paint it. Be it any colour you want, grey, black, white or even blue. Let you imagination drive you. For my dog I painted him brown and white.
You can even paint on expression like a smile if you wanted to. With the detail from before allow you to paint in side them.
Once your dog has finishing drying your created cute and cool clay dog is finish.
Which you can display in your home for friends or family to see your hard work. You can also use what you learn form this lesson to make more animals or even people.
