Lembas: Elvish Waybread
I made Lembas bread from The Lord of the Rings.
Supplies
- 1 cup softened butter
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
Oven preheated to 350*
Making the Dough
In a large bowl, beat together butter and honey. I also add a splash of vanilla extract, but that's optional. When the butter/honey mixture is smooth and creamy, gradually beat in the flour.
Shaping the Dough
When the dough has been all mixed up, you should be able to pinch it together and it sticks. Knead the dough with your hands until it becomes soft. You might need to spread flour on your working surface and your hands to keep the dough from sticking. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough flat. It should be around 1/4 inch thick. You could make it thicker, but you would need to bake it longer at a lower temperature. Anyway, cut the flattened dough into squares using a butter knife. It doesn't really matter how big you make them, it's up to you. Using the butter knife, make a score down the middle, making two triangles. Don't cut all the way through, just make an indent. This will make it cleaner to break while eating them.
Baking
Place the cakes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake at 350* for 9-11 minutes, or until golden brown.
Done
Finished! I hope you enjoy this waybread, and farewell wherever you fare, till your eyries receive you at the journeys end!
