Leftover Pizza Dough Strawberry Pie

So my sister made homemade pizza. Nuuumy. But she made too much dough somehow. There was quite a bit left over. I was going to eat it, but she said it would rise in my stomach and make me sick. Since I have eaten tons of pizza dough before with no ill effects, I doubted her, but I did something else with the extra dough anyway.

I made a pie.

The Bottom Half

Divide your hunk of dough into two roughly equal parts.

Set one aside, and flatten the other one out and put it in the bottom of your pie dish.

Strawberry!

Take your pie filling of choice (I put in strawberry 'cause it was all I had lying around) and put it in.

The Top!

You can skip this step and just make a regular ol' flat top for your pie if you want, but this really gives it some pizzaz, and amazes people, it looks like a TON of work (which it is, in some ways).

First, take the dough you set aside earlier and form it into a ball. Then flatten it into a a circle about the same size as your pie dish. It shouldn't be thick.

Take a knife and divide the dough into long strips about an inch to half an inch wide. I reccommend thinner strips, but it's harder to pull off this "lattice" effect when they're thinner.

The Hard Part

Take half of the strips of dough and lay them next to each other.

Now fold every other strip back about an inch.

Lay another strip on the dough, then fold every other end over. The pictures help a lot.

Keep Doing This

Keep repeating this process, fold down every other strip and place another on top, and fold the strips back down. Do this until you either run out of strips or it's big enough.

Lifting the Top On

This bit is a little tricky, I had to use both hands so I didn't get any pictures of it, but you have to put your hands under the lattice you created and very gently lift it up onto the pie. It took me a while, but I managed to get it on there without breaking it. It can be difficult because the dough sags where you don't support it, and threatens to break.

If it does get messed up a little, just fix it after it's on th pie. You'll be eating it anyway...

Bake at 350 degrees until top is golden brown.

Serve with vanilla ice cream.
