Leather Shoe Hole FIX

Over the years I switch lots of shoes, I tried
them all, sports shoes, restaurant worker specific shoes, heavy leather shoes. mainly there are two problems 1 - they just don't last, sports shoes are too fragile, they last 5 - 6 months at best, then the threads came apart. 2 - too heavy and not comfortable, I'm a barista, I stand 7.5 hours out of 8 H shift. My footwear have to be comfortable, provide protection, light, and durable.

A little over a year ago I got myself Blundstone boots, made in Australia, made to last. They meet all my criteria's.

But, about a month ago a hole appeared on the right boot, it is totally my fault, I use them somewhat carelessly.

Of course, I can buy new ones, but these last couple of months my budget is tight.

I came up with this cheap fix, its been a month now and it is holding well.

Light sanding with 120 grit sandpaper, to clean any oils and
dirt around the hole, for the contact cement to better adhere.

Melt polymorph (poly for short) pellets in hot water, shap in to a cylinder. With one hand in the shoe shape the polymorph in to a rivet, see picture:

Cut off leftovers ,let it set for 15 minutes until its completely white and hard.

Spread contact cement, with the help of a toothpick push the glue between the polymorph and the leather, this will create water tight seal. Let it dry for two hours.

With 120 grit sandpaper, clean the area. Its important to score the poly for the next step.

Use a sharpie in the color of your shoe to cover the white poly, little shoe polish and its done!
