Leather Dog Poop Bag Holder / Dispenser
In this project i wanted to find a stylish and practical solution for dog waste/poop bags. And this is it, a very cool project where you can use your leather scraps. If you are new in leathercraft, this project is for you my friend. This holder/dispenser can accommodate a roll in size of 3 cm x 6 cm (1,1811 inch x 2,3622 inch). With a carabiner hook you can attach the holder on your jeans, pents or your dog leash. By the way, leather is very robust and sustainable material. I LOVE working with leather so much. Okay, let us make one :)
Materials and Tools
Material:
- Leather of your choice 3 - 4 oz (1.2 - 1.6 mm is my recommendation).
- In this project i use Conceria Puccini "BISANZIO" (3 oz - 1.2 mm).
- Carabiner hook 11 x 53 mm.
Tools:
- Cutter
- Ruler
- Hammer
- Round punch (1 mm)
- Round punch (3,5 mm)
- Round punch (10 mm)
- Wood slicker
- 2x needles
- Sew thread
- Tokonole leather finish
- Leather balm (Protect leather and gives the leather a fresh look)
- Rotary tool (for example: Dremel) or sandpaper
- Edge beveler
- Lighter
- Snaps and handpress
Print, Punching Holes, Tracing Out the Pattern and Cut Out the Leather Pieces
Download free attached pattern, print them out. Punch the holes at first and cut the pattern out. Transfer the pattern on each leather piece with the scratch awl tool. Use the ruler and cutter to cut the leather pieces out.
You can also use the crepe tape technique or as i do use the glue dots.
Use the following printer setting:
Size: 100%
Paper size European: DIN A4
Paper size USA: US Letter
Sanding, Bevel and Finishing the Edges
For smooth edges use sandpaper or rotary tool (for example: Dremel).
I am using OKA Factory Edge Beveler Size No. 1 to round off the edges.
Burnish the edges. Use tokonole leather finish and the wood slicker to burnishing the edges. You can use water as well. You can find HERE a very useful tutorial from "Corter Leather".
NOTE: Repeat sanding and burnishing one more time for a better results. Use different types of sandpaper (First round: 400, second round: 1200).
Handpress and Sewing
Attach snaps first. On top i am punching the hole for the snap and attach it at the end, because i can make changes to the position of this snap.
I am sewing the side with the carabiner hook at first. For sewing i use the saddle stitch technique WITHOUT a stitching pony. HERE you can learn from "Corter Leather" how to do that.
There are two ways to sew the side walls:
- Method No. 1 - Sewn the side walls inwards.
- Method No. 2 - Sewn the side walls outwards.
In this project i am using Method No. 2.
The Finished Product
We are done! You made it! I would be glad to see your Leather Dog Poop Bag Holder/Dispenser :)

Upgrade
At the opening, when pulling out the bags, a crack has formed. To give more stability to the opening, I have reinforced it with two discs of leather.
