Lattepanda Shield
Lattepanda, It is a great device for developers and hobbyists.
Concept
For my project, i was after a mini windows based computer which could log and record sensors. This device would be installed and fixed in place.
The biggest problem is how to remote fix "Shutdown" / "Restart" / "Reboot" and to view data without having to connect a monitor or to push a difficult placed reset button.
Problems
-No 3v power supply
-Power / reset buttons difficult to access and have no option to connect external switch without tricky SMD Soldering and possible damage to the board.
-Arduino side of the Lattepanda is always powered, But the Bluetooth is not - so with power outage we have no control.
-If the Lattepand is installed into a housing, it is difficult to disconnect / Connect sensors / to push buttons.
-It has high power usage 3A or more!
-CPU GPU headers use different pin spacing
-Can not connect any standard Arduino shields
Purchase and Setup
Step 1
Purchase a Lattepanda Enterprise version -
Why? Windows enterprise version allows remote desktop for free - no additional software, no extra plugins and no subscription fees! You can connect and view the data with minimum effort.
Set the Lattepanda in Bios to auto boot with "AC Power Loss" Then create a few Desktop Shortcuts for "Shutdown" / "Restart" / "Reboot" / "Restart a program or something else" - Can program the Arduino as a HID keyboard to activate Short Key Step 3 This is where the Contest Starts, I need a shield to allow for the maximum amount of options and to be as thin as possible.
Shield Concept
-Ability to disconnect power
-To be connected to a relay to allow remote restart after shutdown.
-3V voltage regulator for sensors.
-Possibilities to install different DC/DC Voltage regulators "Buck converters"
-Arduino shield compatable.
-Extra pinouts for status lights, switches etc.
-Perforated grid circuit board compatible over the full board to allow easy development of ideas.
-Prototyping area -Prototyping area can be easily removed if additional heat-sink is required.
-But it is always better to cool from underneath..
-Bluetooth 4.0 JDY-08 Connection, to allow Bluetooth control with power outage.
-Backup power connection
TRRS connection -in this case will be used for a switch.
-To fit onto the Lattepanda as low as possible. The USB Connection sits too high, so a cutout for the USB Port is made so the shield sits lower.
-Maximize available area!
Design
Step 4 Download Eagle CAD, learn from YouTube and to Start designing
Why Eagle CAD? Matter of preference for me.
-I like the software
-There are plenty of Youtube Videos for instructions
-Most free designs are made with Eagle CAD, so modifying of downloaded designs is done easy.
-The only drawback is the free version, the maximum build area is a little smaller than i would like.
Order
Step 5 Produce and test I have only just purchased from JLCPCB, My board is currently getting produced and once i receive delivery i will be supply updates and assemble.
