Laser Cut Phone Stand Multi-tool
In this instructable I will show you how to make a laser cut phone stand. Its small and portable and easy to use, plus it has some additional features. Its simple to make and very customizable to fit your needs.
For this project you will need:
Wood
A Laser Cutter
A computer with AutoCAD
Wood Glue
Sandpaper
The original idea for this project came from aescobar ortega. Below is a link to her project:
Design
The first step in making the phone stand is to design it. My design is very straightforward. There is a ruler at the top, indents on the two sides to wrap headphones around, the holes to make it lighter, and the space for the phone to go. The space where the phone goes must be very close to the thickness of the individual phone so its not universal but it easily allows for it to be customized to any phone with or without a case.
Convert to Dxf File
The next step is to convert the design file into a dxf file. What you do is go to save as and on the bottom of the window and change the file type to dxf and then save it.

Cutting the Phone Stand
For the next step you have to print out your dxf file with the laser cutter. For my design I had to change the power and speed of the laser for my ruler so the wood was marked and not cut all the way through. I didn't do that the first time through and you can see the difference between the two. Also mirror the image and cut it both ways so that you can glue the two halves together and get the ruler on both sides
Finishing Touches
To finish up the phone stand the two mirror images need to be glues together with wood glue and then sanded down. As you can see by the images, sanding the wood improves the way it looks greatly. For the last step just add it onto a key ring or a key chain and your done. Enjoy your custom phone stand.
