As the would faces shortages in medical supplies, we must protect those on the front lines as much as possible. In this tutorial, we demonstrate how to laser process this protective face shield so that other laser users can contribute to the cause.
Supplies
- CO2 laser cutter (We used a Trotec Speedy 360 80W with a 2" lens)
- 1/8" (3mm) or 1/4" (6mm) acrylic (available at link below)
- 0.007" PET film (available at link below)
- Acrylic glue
- Rubber band/elastic
Process the Acrylic

Position acrylic into the laser machine and cut the material using the file provided. Once processing is completed, remove the cut pieces from the remaining material.
Laser Parameters*
- Color: Red
- Process: Cut
- Power (%): 100
- Speed (%): 1.0 for 1/8" (3mm), 0.6 for 1/4" (6mm)
- ppi/Hz: 1000 ppi
- Passes: 1
- Air Assist: Yes
- Z-Offset: No
- Advanced: None
*Use these settings as a guide but make sure you adjust your settings if you have a machine with a different wattage.
Assemble the Acrylic Pieces

Insert the smaller piece of material into the acrylic band, as shown in the image provided. Use an acrylic glue to adhere the pieces together and ensure that they are firmly attached.
Process the PET Film

Position a sheet of PET film (material needs to be in a range of 0.007" to 0.01" thickness) onto the vector grid. Select the face mask portion of the file, and cut the film. Once processing is completed, separate the excess film and remove the finished shield from the vector grid.

To assemble, fasten the connectors on the acrylic band into the corresponding holes at the top of the film. Once completed, use a rubber band to keep the protective shield on the head.
