Laser Cut Haunted House Decoration – Perfect for Halloween Parties & Gifts

We built this DIY Haunted House Shadow Box as a Halloween project to celebrate the spooky season and share a fun laser cutting idea with the community. The layered design features glowing windows, ghosts, pumpkins, and other details that bring a classic haunted house to life.

Our goal was to make a project that’s simple to cut, easy to assemble, and enjoyable to customize. To save time on painting, we used pre-colored plywood, which allowed us to focus more on the design and assembly while still getting a vibrant finished look.

This haunted house works perfectly as desktop décor, a party centerpiece, or a handmade Halloween gift. We hope it inspires others to create their own seasonal decorations and enjoy the process of making.

Supplies

Laser cutting machine (CO₂, diode, or fiber laser – any machine that can cut 3mm plywood)

Colored plywood sheets (3mm thick, pre-colored for faster assembly – we used black, blue, yellow, white, and orange)

Digital cutting file (SVG / DXF) of the Haunted House designWe’ve uploaded the file here so you can download it and start cutting right away.

Strong craft glue or wood glue

Sandpaper (optional, for smoothing edges)

Clamps or tape (to hold pieces in place while drying)

LED tealight or small lamp (optional, for backlighting the haunted house windows)

Cutting the Layers

Download the SVG or DXF file we’ve uploaded in the supplies section. Load it into your laser cutting software (LightBurn, Glowforge App, or similar) and cut each layer from the corresponding color of plywood.

Once the pieces are cut, stack them in order and glue the layers together. Make sure everything lines up before the glue sets.

Once the layers are cut, apply a thin layer of craft glue or wood glue between each piece and press them together in order. Use clamps or tape to hold the layers while the glue dries.

To see the full assembly process, check out the video we’ve uploaded — it shows all the details step by step.

After the glue is fully dry, your haunted house shadow box is ready to use! Place it on a desk, bookshelf, or party table to add a spooky Halloween touch.

For an extra effect, you can put a small LED tealight or lamp behind it to make the windows glow. It also makes a fun seasonal gift for friends or family.

Now just enjoy the atmosphere it brings — a handmade decoration that’s simple to create but full of Halloween spirit. 🎃
