Laser Cut Acrylic Baby Nursery Mobile
Make this cute custom mobile for a baby nursery out of different acrylic from Trotec Materials. Combine and mix colors to your liking!
Supplies
- CO2 laser cutter (We used a Trotec Speedy 360 80W with a 2" lens)
- Acrylic cutting grid
- 3mm sheet TroGlass Pastel (for the bodies of the elephants)
- Colors used: mint, yellow, orange, lilac, pink, light blue (not available yet in the U.S.)
- 3mm sheet TroGlass Satins (for the ears, hearts and for the tire for the suspension)
- Colors used: lime green, yellow, orange, violet, fuchsia, blue (available at link below)
- Cotton or silk thread (clear fishing line is ideal as well)
- Laser masking or painters tape (sealing off your bed to create optimal air flow)
Create Your Own Design or Use Our Template
Make sure that the cutting gap corresponds to the thickness of the material, so that the individual parts can then be inserted into each other. Cutting according to our template:
- 1x suspension ring large
- 1x suspension eyelet small
- 8x elephant (in different colors)
- 8x ears (with desired motives in different colors)
- Heart large (in desired number and color)
- Heart small (in desired number and color)
Use the desired color combinations to create the print jobs for the respective acrylic plates.
Laser Process TroGlass
Now make the parameter settings. The parameter settings apply to both TroGlass Pastel 1/8" (3mm) and TroGlass Satins 1/8" (3mm). Our suggested parameters may vary depending on the laser machine used and the available laser power.
Leave the protective film on both the top and bottom of the acrylic sheets. Place the material on the acrylic grid cutting table in the laser machine. Cover the remaining surface to create the best possible vacuum. Perform the laser process for each acrylic sheet accordingly.

Assemble the Elephants
After processing has completed, remove the parts from the laser. Peel off the protective film from the top and bottom of the individual design parts.
Prepare all cut out parts. Put the ears together with the respective part of the torso.
Attaching the Thread
Now weave your thread through the hole at the head of the elephant. Then feed the same thread from the other side through the hole in the fuselage. The resulting cross-hairs fix the ears to the elephant's trunk. Knot the thread above the ears.
Follow these steps for all elephant models.
Assembly
Now feed two threads of the desired length for the suspension into the opposite, larger holes on the ring. Then pull the thread through the small oval ring for the suspension.
Hold the ring by the suspension and adjust the length of the threads so that it hangs horizontally. Knot the ends.
Finally, hang all elephants and hearts in the desired arrangement using the holes on the ring.
Inspiration
You can choose to combine the elephants and ears in the same color tone or mix and match as you wish.
Please feel free to use other materials such as wood. When using different materials, pay attention to the material thickness and adjust the cutting gap in the graphic accordingly if necessary.
Note: This mobile is not a toy and is only suitable for decoration purposes. Install the mobile out of reach of small children.
