This product is a giant scrunchie. I made this product because it was enjoyable to make something unique that many people don't have or something that is not seen often. I also made this because it can be used for decoration to add a little more color or wimsey to a room. It even has practical use, such as to wrap around towels or blankets or to hold up your hair!

Supplies

60" X 4" fabric

30" piece of elastic

Pins

Sewing machine

Thread

Tape measure

Marker/Piece of chalk

Safety pin

Scissors

Cutting the Fabric

First, gather all of the supplies listed above. Then, find a large flat surface where you can measure and cut out a 60" by 4" piece of fabric. Lay out the fabric and measure 60" and make a mark with the marker or chalk. After that, measure out 4" and make a mark with the marker or chalk. Cut the fabric along the markings you have made.

Preparing the Fabric

Next, fold the piece of fabric in half length-wise with the inside part of the fabric facing out. Line up the edges of the fabric so they are flush with each other. Place pins in the fabric along the way so the fabric stays in line.

Sewing

Place the open edge under the presser foot of the sewing machine and begin to sew along the open side of the fabric (be sure to remove the pins as you come to them). Once the sewing is finished, turn the fabric inside out so the right side of the fabric is facing out.

Threading the Elastic

Now, using the safety pin, pin one end of the elastic (as shown above) to help you thread the elastic through the fabric sleeve you have made (safety pin side should go in first). Make sure to hold on to the other end of elastic. Once it has been threaded through and both ends of the elastic are out, remove the safety pin and tie the ends in a knot.

Finishing the Scrunchie

Finally, pull the fabric over the knot you have tied and sew the ends of the fabric together. Shift the fabric around the elastic to create the desired look. Admire your finished product!
