Large Chess Board and Pieces

This is instructions on how to make a 24"x 24" chess board with 3d print chess pieces.

3D printer or already acquired chess pieces

1 roll of black plastic filament

1 roll of white plastic filament

Lazar cutter or a way to cut wood/other materials straight and to correct measurements.

2 12"x12" sheets of white material

2 12"x12" sheets of dark material

1 24"x24" sheet of wood

Paint/stainer

Glue

To start your chess set, you are going to need chess pieces. Linked below is a downloadable file for those pieces. Save the file to a hard drive with a removable disc. Next, slice the hard drive with 3d editing software, ensure you have support, and set the support to everywhere. Lastly, remove the removable disc from the hard drive and insert it into your 3d printer, make sure the printer is leveled properly and press begin. Print twice with different colors.

Laser cut or cut 32, 2 1/2 by 2 1/2 inch black tiles, and then laser cut 32, 2 1/2 by 2 1/2 inch white tiles.

Optional: Engrave an image of a pawn on 8 white tiles and 8 black tiles, an image of a knight on 2 black tiles and 2 white tiles, the bishop on 2 white tiles and 2 black tiles, rook on 2 white tiles and 2 black tiles, king on 1 black tile and 1 white, queen on 1 white tile and 1 black tile.

Next, Engrave a piece of wood that is 24 in by 24. The engraving area is 20 in by 20 in, You should engrave it 3.4mm deep to place all of your tiles in the right order and place. Label top to bottom 1-8, and left to right A-H. Stain the board in the color "Espresso" for a nice dark look.

Before placing down each tile, put a spot of glue where it's going to be placed. The tiles should be placed in the order of the above images. Make sure that if you did engrave the tiles, put them in the spots corresponding to the tile color and what piece goes on top of them.
