This is quite simple to make and a very versatile recipe to use....it is fantastic in your favorite tea using the simple syrup as the sweetener or a top your favorite tart or ice cream...simply YUMMY.....

In a medium saucepan, bring the water to a boil and add the lemon slices along with the juice from the squeezed lemon. Let this continue to cook for 45 minutes or so on a simmer until the rind has softened.
Remove the slices and add the sugar, whisk in the sugar until well combined, put back the lemon slices and add the liqueur.
Let this reduce until it resembles a thick syrup like consistence.
Immediately pour into a glass jar, preferable a canning jar with a hinged lid and a rubber seal...

*When using this as a topping, place the jar in a saucepan filled with water approximately halfway, heat until the syrup is liquified.****
