Do you have endless amounts of LED light strips that You do not know where to place? Have you filled every desk and wall in your house with LEDs? Well this is the project for you. This is an LED lamp that is controlled by an esp8266 or any kind of LED light strip. You do not need a fancy light strip to do this project but it was what I wanted to do. Any led light strip will work for this project. It can be placed in a corner and be moved easily. I came up with this project because I wanted some LED lights for my dorm and did not want to worry about having to take them down when I move out.

Supplies

Amazon

LED Strip that I used

LED channel for the strip to sit-in

ESP8266

Power supply

Tools used

Table saw

Miter saw

Dremel

Hot glue gun

Wood glue

Hacksaw

Jigsaw (drill and chisel could work here)

Step 1 Determine Size

I first wanted to determine the height of my lamp. I found the height that I wanted knowing that my strip was 3.3 feet or about 40 inches. I also knew that I wanted a base that was sturdy enough so the lamp would not want to fall over. I made it 11.5 in by 11.5 in I then cut out two of those and stacked them together because they were 3/4 in thick. The base does not matter the size and can be different depending on the wood that you have available.

Step 2 Cut Out and Glue Wood

I used a table saw to cut a 2 by 4 into the dimensions in the previous step. After going the wood of the base into place I then cut out a rectangle the size of the vertical lamp post for it to slide into a little with a jig saw

Step 3 Stain and Polyurethane

After the wood where was where I wanted it and all glued down I stained and polyurethaned the whole thing a dark color.

Step 4 Add Channel for Led Strip

Here is where I added a channel for my led strip. Some of my other lamps I just used the strip instead of the wood surrounding it. Here is a link to the different channels that can be used.

Step 5 Add LED Lights

This step has endless possibilities. I decided to used individually addressable LEDs with ESP8266 and the WLED software. Here is a link to a starting guide for that. There are so many neat configurations that can be done with this controller which is why I used it.

You can also use RGB strip lights or even single color lights as well.

Step 6 Plug in and Enjoy
