LASER CUT - DRONE FRAME

Drone-Helices.jpg

Hi,

Here is a mini tutorial including an PDF file on how to make an inexpensive Quadcopter frame.

I will just explain how to build the frame only.

If you are looking for all the steps on how to build a funny quadcopter see my other instructable :

https://www.instructables.com/id/Raquette-Drone-or-...

How to make the frame :

This is made of 3mm MDF and the cost is less than 2$. (With out glue).

I did this quadcopter to fit my systainer box, so it's a 330mm frame that feet perfectly my Makita Systainer.

(I have a systainer for the Quad and an other one for the Remote Control and accessories).

What You Will Need

What you will need :

An MDF Sheet 60x40cm Then you will need a laser cutter, a lot of fablab or carpenters have laser cutter now.

In the PDF file, the blue lines must be cutted in second and the red one in first (The color work perfectly with a Trotec Speedy 300 & 400).

If you can't find a laser cutter, you can still saw it. For this : print the frame and glue the printing on the MDF and cut it with a saw (see picture in attachment - i think it's called a bowsaw)

Gluing

The frame is made of :

• 2 layer for the base

• A cross-beam

Everything is made of 3mm MDF and glued with wooden-glue.

In the drawing they are 8 legs - 4 small legs and 4 extensions ones. The legs are quite fragile so make some extra-ones or replace them with long carriage bolts.

Then you will have to place the electronics. (they are plenty tutorial on how to configure and install the electronics). In my case, I'm using DJI motors (they where on sale they are ok if you use 9inch propellers) with simonK ESC and a Naze32 but you can feet a Pixhawk or an APM, Multiwi, CC3D.... You can have a look at the video link some of the best tutorials are coming from Painless360. (Her is how to choose a flight controller).

Placing the Electronic and Customizing

When the frame is glued you can modify it easily and customize it or paint it.
