My old plastic knives block was becoming dangerously too much crowded, so I decided to build this rack.

It's easy to build and we it takes less space in our small kitchen.

Buy the Material and Cut the Wood

Put all the knives on the table so you can have an idea of the size of the plank you need.

You also will need a narrower slat to make the two horizontal stripes and a thinner one to make spacers.

Vinyl glue, screws, sand paper and wood treatment chemicals are also needed.

Preparation

In order to better fit the handle of the knives, plane the plank and the upper stripe at about 45 degree.

Then sand all the wood and make a first pass of mordant. I used one with teak color.

Glue and Screw

Cut small squares of spacers then glue it on the plank.

Put a bit of glue and the slat, then fix it with a grip.

Make the same for the 4 corners and wait 24h.

Then drill a small hole and make a slot with the countersink and add screws.

Spacers

There are knives with a flat border on the grip and others with a slope. When you put the latter in the rack they will bend. For these a small spacer is required.

Cut a small spacer and place it in between the plank and the upper stripe. Use glue. Put the knife inside and setup the spacers until the knife is straight.

Repeat this step for each knife with a bent grip, then let the glue 24h with the vise.

Hang It

Use double sided tape to hang it. That's all.
