Knitting: Casting on (The Loop Method)

This is a tutorial for how to do the Loop cast on method. There are other ways that give different appearances, but this one is the easiest for beginners, and provides an elegant looping edge on any piece.

Take your left hand (or your right hand and mirror it) and twirl it around your index finger until you make a circle loop of yarn, then bring the yarn behind the loop and then through the loop. Then tighten the knot on the knitting needle. But not too tight!

After you've made the slip knot, you have to make your first loop stitch. To do this, take some yarn and follow the photos by putting it behind your finger, and bringing it back forward. Then bring your finger to the point of the needle and take the thread that's on the top of your finger and put the point of the needle through the loop you've made. Tighten. Repeat this to form the desired amount of stitches.

You will end up with a handsome entwining edge on your handsome projects. Don't give up! It is hard to knit into, but after a few tries, you'll get the hang of it.
