Knitted Fingerless Gloves

I have been knitting since I was 11 years old (almost 50 years).  I asked my wonderful daughter-in-law want she wanted me to make her for her birthday. She requested “yoga socks” (that’s another Instructable not yet published).  While knitting these socks I came up with several ideas that were variations on the theme.  This is one of those variations.  I knitted this these fingerless gloves from my own pattern.  I think this would be considered an intermediate project because I used 4 double point needles to create the gloves. Also you need to know how to cast on stitches in the middle of the project. Here we go.
 

Supplies:
1 skein Wool Free Sock by Premier Yarns found here: 
http://www.premieryarns.com , the color I used was “Grand Canyon” which delighted the geologist in me, plus I love self-striping yarn. One skein will make both gloves.
Set of 4 size 2 double pointed knitting needles
Scissors
Stitch marker
Needle caps- I made these out of Surgru, the caps keep the stitches from sliding off the back side of the needle.

Cast on 60 stitches.
 

Row 1-starting on the needle with the first stitch you cast on, knit ribbing, or in other words, *k1, p1, repeat from * until all 20st are on the 4th needle (your right hand needle). Use the empty left hand needle as your right hand needle and starting with * keep creating ribbing on the second needle and then the third needle. This complete round is Row 1. The tail left from the casting on of your original stitches will let your know where each row starts. You know you doing it right if you start each needle with a knit and end each needle with a purl.
 

Rows 2-55 – repeat Row 1.  Use the stitch marker to mark off each ten rows, thus you won’t have to spent too much time recounting rows to keep track of where you are in the pattern. ( /- 4.5 inches or 11.25 cm)
 

Row 56 – k1p1 for 25st, BO 10st, k1p1the last 25 stitches
 

Row 57 – k1p1, 25st, CWCO 10st, k1p1the last 25 stitches
 

Row 58 – k1,p1 across all 60st, you have just finished the opening for the thumb.
Rows 59-88 – repeat Row 58  ( /- 2 inches or 5 cm)
 

Row 89 – BO loosely, so that the opening can stretch
 

My Hubby is my hand model.  He wants a pair and so his will be in a color called Oceanic.  Enjoy!
