Knife Sheath Repair / Modification

I found this interesting double knife sheath at a flea market and paid only $3 for it. I decided to replace the flap because of the hole and the black marker initials on it.

A piece of leather to match the flap (I bought a bag of leather pieces from Michael's)

A drill with a 3/16" bit.

Hole punch

Heavy duty scissors.

Pop rivet tool and some 1/8" by 1/2" long pop rivets

Sharpie fine point marker.

Flat blade screwdriver

Drill out the rivets on the belt loop, I used a 3/16" bit because the original rivets and washers were 1/8" size.

Open the belt loop and drill out the two rivets that hold the belt loop and front flap.

I kept the washers, removed the painted brass snaps with a screw driver.

The old removed rivets weren't reusable.

Place the old flap on the replacement leather and trace out the shape and mark the holes where the snaps and the rivets were.

Cut out the leather with the scissors. Punch the holes with the leather hole punch.

I placed the snaps onto the new flap and carefully bent down the snaps tabs.

Reassemble the sheath by placing the new flap the right way around, add the top part of the belt loop, put the pop rivet through the front of the sheath, put the washer on the back side of the rivet. Use the pop rivet tool to set the rivet. Do this for the second one as well.

Fold down the belt loop, put the pop rivet through the front of the sheath, put the rivet on the back side and use the tool to set the rivet, repeat for the other side.

Snap down the new flap and you're done. The new flap is a slightly different colour then the rest of the sheath but just as functional as the old flap, but without the hole and the initials.
