Recently, I have made a K’NEX gun with a new firing system (as far as I’m aware). It’s a 6-layer single-shot slingshot, which is loaded by pumping the pump. No more pulling rubber bands back with your fingers! Despite being of experimental design, it works surprisingly well. It can shoot a K’NEX arrow up to around 60 feet, with a large force of impact.

Features

  • Unique firing mechanism
  • Reliable
  • Looks like a sawed-off shotgun
  • High power
  • Low piece count for its size
  • Ammo lock
  • Pump lock

Pump: Part 1

  1. Build 2 of the piece in pic 1.
  2. Add the pieces shown in pic 2 (don’t forget the 2 green rods placed vertically at the top).
  3. Finish part 1 of the pump as described by pic 4. Add the black connectors (pic 3) on both sides.

Pump: Part 2

  1. Build 2 of these (pic 5).
  2. Slide them on the bottom two blue rods (check the note on pic 7 for more info).
  3. Build the part in pic 6. Important: Only the red connectors which are also connected to the 2 structures on top, should be connected to each other using green rods. That’s 6 red connectors in total which should be connected to the opposite piece, 3 on each side. I did this so that the pump is easier to assemble and disassemble, while retaining (more than) enough structural strength.

Pump: connecting part 1 and 2

Attach part 1 to 2 as shown in pic 7. Mounting the pump to the gun will happen at the last step.

Bottom barrel

  1. Add spacers in the designated places (pic 1 and 2).
  2. Build the part in pic 3 twice.
  3. Build the part in pic 4 once.
  4. Install like shown, and add some spacers on top of the pieces (pic 5).
  5. Add four grey connectors on the corner (pic 6).

Top barrel

  1. Add spacers along the top of the barrel (pic 7).
  2. Build the part in pic 8 twice.
  3. Build the parts in pic 9-11 once.
  4. Install them like so, adding some more spacers! :) (pic 12/13)

  1. Make these (pic 1 and 2).
  2. Put them on like this, and put on some spacers as shown (pic 3).
  3. Build the rubberband wheel and trigger (pic 4).
  4. Install them according to pic 5 and 6, adding some more spacers as well (pay attention to these).

  1. Make 2 of these (pic 1).
  2. Make 2 of these, too (pic 2).
  3. Install them as shown (pic 3-5).
  4. At this point, we’re ready to build another outer layer and mount in on (pic 6).

  1. Make and install the trigger attachment (pic 1-3). This will hold the ammo in place when the trigger is not engaged.
  2. Make and install the ammo stopper (pic 4 and 5. This piece will prevent the ammo from getting into the rubber band wheel when loading the gun.
  3. Install the pump (finally!) using pic 6 as a reference. Disconnect the rails and slide the pump over them. Install the rubber bands as shown (take a look at the notes on the picture).
  4. Make the ammo according to pic 7 (use exactly this ammo, it will work the best). Slide it in the barrel ‘till it touches the rubber bands, hold in the trigger while pulling back the pump to allow the ammo to slide back, let the rubber bands catch on the wheel, disengage the trigger, and push the pump forward. Now you have a loaded gun and can fire and repeat. For any questions, please comment.
