K'nex Sailplane

This is my first plane-based model I'm going to post. I hope you enjoy.

Supplies

You can skip this step if you want. There aren't that many pieces to it. But if you want to, go ahead. Don't listen to the red connector in the photo, there are two, not one. Here is a list of what you will need:

Connectors:

  1. Gray: 7
  2. Orange: 4
  3. Red: 2
  4. Yellow: 10
  5. Green: 6
  6. Dark Gray:2

Rods:

  1. Green: 16
  2. White: 8
  3. Blue: 5
  4. Yellow: 4
  5. Grey: 4

Misc.

  1. Black Caps: 4
  2. Blue Spacers: 12
  3. Wheel (w/ Tire): 1
  4. Orange thing: 1

If you do not have the orange thing, you can modify it by replacing one of the dark gray connectors on the tail with a blue one.

Tail

The photos shouldn't be too hard to follow along with. This is the part where you will need to replace the orange clip with the blue connector though. To do this, slide the dark grey and blue connectors together, then align them with the rest of the tail where the two dark grey ones were in the image, with the dark grey one connecting to the red connector at the front of the tail. The white rod should fit into the slot.

Fuselage and Wings

Now that the tail is complete, you can set it side while you build the very simple main body and wings of the plane. Once you build the main body panels (image 1), attach them to the tail as shown. Then you can begin on the wings. To attach the wings to the plane, connect one of the grey connectors to the open slot on the front of the yellow connector as shown in the image. Then slide the other grey connector into the open hole behind it.

Nose and Wheel

First, you can create the nose by connecting three grey connectors to a blue rod and attaching them to the plane as shown in the first and second image. Then, you're going to need to remove the two middle yellow connectors in the middle of the fuselage. Place a black cap on your last blue rod and align the pieces as shown. You aren't going to slide the rod through the yellow pieces, so if you want to leave them out until everything is on the rod, that's okay. They should go cap, spacer, yellow connector, spacer, spacer, wheel, spacer, spacer, yellow connector, spacer, cap. Connect the yellow connectors onto the blue rod as shown. One spacer should be on the outside of each side, with two separating the wheel and connector. Once you have this complete, reattach the connectors to the plane as shown, with the blue rod on toward the front of the plane.

Enjoy

Congratulations. You now have a little glider. You'll notice it doesn't have an engine. It's a sailplane, they don't have an engine, they glide after a tow plane pulls them up. They truly are fascinating airplanes. I hope you enjoy, and I hope to add more creations in the future. Feel free to make your own modifications to the plane, and please share them if you do. Thanks!
