K'nex S-64 Skycrane
I made this after making a very large version of this same aircraft that I hope to post later. It even has six blades. It's small, it's simple, and it's convenient. I hope you enjoy.
Supplies
It doesn't require anything too much. I suppose it has quite a few y clips for its size, and maybe a few wheels.
A few pieces aren't necessary, so you can go through and see what you do and don't want.
Rods:
- Green: 29
- White: 35
- Blue: 2
- Yellow: 2
- Red: 6
Connectors:
- Purple: 3
- Orange: 15
- Gray (two way): 1
- Red: 6
- Green: 15
- Yellow: 2
- White: 5
- Blue Slider: 4
- Gray Slider: 6
Miscellaneous
- Blue Spacer: 6
- Gray Spacer: 4
- Y-Clip: 12
- Tan Clip: 2
- Silver Clip: 4
- Black Cap: 5
- Small Black Wheel: 6
- Wheel w/ Tire: 1
Body
This is a small helicopter, so the steps won't be as long. Just follow along. Nothing special here. Make sure the pieces are lined up and on the same side as shown in the images.
Cockpit
Just build the different sections and add them to the body when you're done. They aren't really secure, but they don't need to be.
Counterweight
this is only necessary because the tail is a little heavy. You'll have to work with the wheel underneath a little to get it in correctly, but it shouldn't be too hard.
Landing Gear
The S-64 has a unique landing gear layout because of its uses. The tan clips aren't necessary to the landing gear, but they are decorative. The back two wheels connect to the green connectors, and the front connects to the top of the body in the front.
Tail
Nothing special here. But because of its small size, it needed a second support. The real one does not have this. Build the tail and add it to the back, then add the tail rotor.
Propeller
Now for the best part. This is the most complicated, so follow along closely. Build the shaft, then the blades. The blades are build in three layers. Make sure you place them in the right order from bottom to top. The holding parts are a little complicated. I find it is easiest to slide add them to the connectors separately. Then connect them separately. It's hard to explain, but if you do it a few times, you'll know. Do this three times. It doesn't matter which ones you do it, just as long as they're next to each other obviously. The silver clips aren't necessary, but I added them to secure the rods. If you do decide to add them, the two on top should go in the same direction as one another and the ones on the bottom go the opposite. Finally, you add the blades, and you are done.
Enjoy
I like this little thing, but the big one is so much cooler. I'm excited to share it. Until then, I hope you liked this post.
