K'nex Flying Lawn Chair

Allen was always in love with the idea of flying. But he could never afford to do it. All he could afford was a lawn chair and some large balloons. But that didn't stop him. Here's Allen now, ready to set off on his home made flying lawn chair.

This is just a little something I threw together and thought I'd might as well share. The idea came from King of the Hill, the best "all 'merican" show there is.

I hope you enjoy the idea and the model.

Nothing special here. Not a ton of pieces, and the k'nex figure isn't needed. The list for the figure is separate.

*You will need at least two silver clips for this. I you do not have them, purple connectors can take their place.

K'nex Figure:

• 2 Green Rods (or black)
• 1 White Rod
• 6 Y-clips
• 6 Ball joints
• 6 socket joints
• 2 large caps
• 1 eye-piece

This part isn't too difficult. You build the resting chair piece, and the frame of it. Then piece it together with three yellow rods, one going through the front green connectors of both the pieces, one going through the the two back green and orange connectors, and one connected to the rear gray connectors. If you're satisfied with just the chair, that's fine. But remember, you want to make it fly.

This part takes a little more precision than the last. You may need tweezers if you have larger fingers. Or to take some pieces off and put them on the rods separately. There are 4 yellow rods that go here, and you use up all the caps, spacers, and silver clips here. Once rod goes through the lower front two purple (or gray in this case) connectors, the upper ones, the yellow connectors, and the top rear connectors. The one on the back has the silver clips attached as shown. They can be replaced with any connector or 4 blue spacers and 2 caps.

Start out by making the balloon outsides. Then the center rod. The red rod will be in charge of holding it all together. Connect the pieces built as shown. The yellow rods connect to the two blue connectors and the green rods on top go to the other end. Build three of these. Then add the bottom pieces as shown. Once should have a gray rod, one should have a white, and one should have a green and white rod held with an orange connector. Then attach the balloons together with the two remaining rods. the bottom of the gray balloon goes in the center. Pay close attention to which balloon you connect to the blue rod and which you connect to the white one. The balloon with the white rod on the bottom connects to the blue rod on the top, and the other balloon connects to the white rod, as shown.

Once the balloons are connected, attach them to the chair. I recommend starting by attaching the gray rod to the middle, then the other two. Make sure that the balloon with the orange connector goes to the front.

Study the anatomy of the figure. I don't know if this is actually how it goes, but it works out. If it's not, go ahead and say something. Position him as shown, and slide him (or her, this is the twenty-first century after all) into the back of the chair, underneath the center bar. Then position him comfortably so he can enjoy his flight.
