Aujourd'hui, vous allez apprendre à fabriquer un kit de plantes. Ce projet a pour but de rendre accessible facilement, à un grand nombre de personnes, les outils techniques basiques et les matériaux pour planter plusieurs types de graines. Notre objectif en imaginant ce kit, a été de participer à la re-végétalisation des villes pour lutter contre les îlots de chaleur urbains et contribuer à la dépollution de l'air.

Si vous confectionnez ce kit, vous pouvez le distribuer à vos enfants, vos voisins ou vos collègues! C'est un petit cadeau sympa et utile !

Today you will learn how to make a plant kit. The aim of this project is to make basic technical tools and materials for planting easily accessible to a large number of people. Our goal in designing this kit was to participate in the re-vegetation of cities to fight against urban heat islands and contribute to the depollution of the air.

Pour ce kit, vous aurez besoin :

- sac d'une dimension 25x30 cm (taille S)

- petit sac de dimension 19x10,5 cm (taille XS) ou chutes de tissus pour coudre le sac soi-même

- terre de coco (option 1) ou terre de coco avec fibres (option 2)

- billes d'argiles

- graines de pétunia, géranium et luzerne (possible de combiner d'autres graines)

For this kit you will need :

- a bag measuring 25x30 cm (size S)

- a small bag measuring 19x10.5 cm (size XS) or scraps of fabric to sew the bag yourself

- coconut soil (option 1) or coconut soil with fiber (option 2) - clay balls - petunia, geranium and alfalfa seeds (other seeds can be combined)

Se munir d’un sac en coton de 25 cm sur 30 cm, refermable à l’aide d’un cordon, et le remplir de 220 g de terre de coco.

Take a 25 x 30 cm cotton bag, which can be closed with a string, and fill it with 220 g of coconut soil.

- Si vous avez choisi d'utiliser des chutes de tissus :

Découper un rectangle de tissu de 10,5 sur 19 cm, s'il s'agit de chutes de tissus de vêtements, les coudre à l’envers pour ne pas voir les coutures une fois retourné. On obtient un petit pochon.

Sinon, prenez le sac de petite taille.

- Avec du papier recyclé, faire trois petites pochettes, mettre dans la première 3 graines de géranium, dans la deuxième une pincée de graines de pétunia, et une pincée de graines de luzerne dans la dernière.

Mettre les trois origamis dans le pochon.

- Enfin, verser 40 grammes de billes d’argile dans le pochon, et fermer avec deux à trois agrafes, mettre dans le grand sac en coton.

- If you have chosen to use fabric scraps:

Cut a rectangle of fabric measuring 10.5 x 19 cm. If you are using scraps of fabric from clothes, sew them inside out so that you cannot see the seams when they are turned inside out. The result is a small pouch. Otherwise, take the small bag.

- With recycled paper, make three small pouches, put 3 geranium seeds in the first one, a pinch of petunia seeds in the second one, and a pinch of lucerne seeds in the last one.

Put the three origami in the pouch.

- Finally, pour 40 grams of clay balls into the pouch, close with two or three staples, and put in the large cotton bag.

Couper une étiquette en papier, écrire le nom du projet puis enlever le noeud du cordon sur le sac en coton pour faire passer l’étiquette, renouer ensuite.

Cut a paper label, write the name of the project. Then remove the knot in the cord on the cotton bag to pass the label through, then tie it again.

Avant de proposer ce tutoriel, des tests ont été réalisés avec plusieurs pots. Différents paramètres ont été modifiés, pour vérifier que le kit fonctionnerait peu importe les conditions extérieures. Parmi les variables il y avait la fréquence d'arrosage, l'exposition au soleil, la luminosité dans la journée, le lieu où était le pot (intérieur/extérieur), la répartition des graines dans le pot.

Voici les conseils finaux obtenus en combinant toutes les expériences :

- Arrosage: peu fréquent, une ou deux fois par semaine suffisent

- Exposition: Le plus de lumière/soleil possible

- Garder les pousses à l'intérieur sur les premières semaines

- Ne pas mettre trop de luzerne, séparer les graines quand on les plante

Before offering this tutorial, tests were carried out with several pots. Different parameters were changed, to check that the kit would work regardless of the outdoor conditions. Among the variables, there was the frequency of watering, the exposure to the sun, the brightness during the day, the location of the pot (indoor/outdoor), the distribution of the seeds in the pot.

Here are the final advices obtained by combining all the experiments:

- Watering: infrequent, once or twice a week is sufficient

- Exposure: As much light/sun as possible

- Keep the sprouts indoors for the first few weeks

- Do not put in too much lucerne, separate the seeds when planting
