Kimchi Fried Rice (bokkeumbap)

This simple and super quick recipe (if you have leftover rice) brings out the best of its few ingredients to give you a tasty experience.

Materials:

  • steamed rice
  • kimchi
  • onion
  • egg
  • sriracha sauce
  • nori

Cutting

  • finely dice kimchi and onion
  • cut some nori into flakes for garnishing later

Saute the Veggies

In a hot pan:

  • pour 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • add onion and saute
  • add kimchi

Frying the Rice

To the same pan:
  • add in rice and stir well
  • drizzle sriracha sauce over it and mix
  • cook until rice is well mixed and hot
  • transfer rice to a plate

Egg on Top

In another hot pan:

  • add 1 teaspoon of oil
  • crack in one egg and lightly brown one side
  • pour in half cup of water and cover with a lid for 3-5 minutes (depends on how hard you want the egg to be)
  • open lid and place egg on top of the rice

Garnishing

On to the plate

  • sprinkle nori flakes on the egg
  • drizzle with some more sriracha sauce
  • serve with kimchi on the side
