Kicked-up Patty Melts

I went with a loose meat style – mixing the mushrooms, onions, and jalapenos all in with the meat! This Kicked-up Patty Melt is simple but oh so delicious!
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 40 minutes
Servings 6 (makes 8 sandwiches)
Ingredients:
- 16 slices Buttermilk Bread
- 16 slices Swiss Cheese
- 1½ lb Ground Beef
- 2 tbsp Avocado Oil
- ½ White Onion, diced
- 4 Garlic Cloves, minced
- 1 cup Mushrooms, chopped
- 1 Jalapeno, diced
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Red Pepper Flakes
For the Sauce
- 1 cup Mayo
- ½ cup Ketchup
- ¼ cup Sweet Relish
Supplies
- Griddle
- Cutting Board
- Knife
- Saute Pan
- Cooking Spoon
- Small Mixing Bowl
- Spatula
Prep the Veggies

Cut up the mushrooms, onions and jalapenos. The mushrooms and onions should be roughly the same size - at about a quarter-inch cubes. And the jalapenos should be about half of that.
Cook the Meat

In a large sauce pan over medium-high heat, add oil, onions and garlic. Cook for 3 minutes then add ground beef, red pepper flakes, salt, and jalapenos. Cook until no longer pink. Now is also a good time to get that griddle heating up to medium-high heat.
Make the Sauce

Combine sauce ingredients in a bowl.
Build the Patty Melts

Build the sandwich – start with a slice of bread spread with sauce, add a slice of cheese, a portion of meat mixture, a slice of cheese, and a slice of bread. (See photo in post)
I strongly suggest making all of the sandwiches before you start putting them on the griddle. This way everyone gets hot food at the same time.
