Keychain - Turkish Coffee Based Bioplastic

20220426_112616.jpg

I made a keychain using Turkish Coffee Based Bioplastic. I found the recipie from Materiom website (https://materiom.org/recipe/618) and revise it as adding one more material (corn flour).

Supplies

Turkish coffee waste: 14 gr

Water: 80 ml

Glycerin: 5 gr

Gelatin (instead of agar agar): 3 gr

Addition: Corn flour: 4 gr

Measure the Ingredients

Mix Ingredients and Cook

I mixed all the ingredients into steel coffee pot (cezve) and stir them using a spoon. I put them on the stove and continue to stir the mixture while cooking. It takes around 15 minutes to get dense and thick as in the photo.

Molding

After the cooking process, I used a plastic surface and plastic bottle cap to shape the object. After 15 mins taking out from the pot, it is difficult to shape the mixture, so you need to prepare your molding materials beforehand.

Drying and Decorating

I left it in the room setting for drying. After 24 hours it was dry enough to put it out from the mold. I waited two more days to make sure it protects its shape and texture. At the end, the material was flexible and strong enough to make a hole for keychain.

I decorated the Turkish coffee based keychain with the acrylic marker.
