Kemove 98 Keyboard Key Cap and Switch Replacement
Switching the keycaps and key switches on your keyboard is one of the easiest and most effective ways to customize the appearance, feel, and typing experience of your keyboard. Whether you are applying a new keycap set, cleaning underneath the keys, or replacing broken switches, the process is easy and safe if done carefully. All you need is a keycap puller, a switch puller, and a little patience to remove each keycap and each switch without damaging the sockets or the board.
Supplies
Supplies: Key Cap, Key Switch, Key/Switch puller.
Optional cleaning items: Microfiber cloth, Keyboard brush, and Isopropyl Alcohol.
Unplug your keyboard from the power outlet and/or your computer.
Place your keyboard on a clean, flat surface, preferably a desk or a table.
Line up your key cap puller to the key you want to replace and press down lightly till it doesn't move.
- Pull the key out gently until it comes out.
- Optional: You can clean this area with the brush lightly.
- Align the switch puller vertically to the removed key cap area.
- Squeeze the switch puller a little and gently pull out the switch.
- The second image shows what the downside should look like. If it's similar, then that's fine too.
Important: Make sure to do your research on what kind of switch fits your keyboard.
- Align your new switch to the empty area with the switch plugs matching the board's plug.
- Gently push it down.
- Put your old key/new key cap into the newly added switch.
- Press it down gently till it reaches the bottom.
- If it doesn't go down, then rotate the key cap till it goes down fully. It should match the other key's height.
- Repeat the steps 3-7 for any other keys you want to replace.
- Optional final cleaning: Spray isopropyl alcohol on the microfiber cloth 5-6 times on a 4x4 inch area of the cloth.
- Optional: If using an isopropyl alcohol bottle, put 7-8 raindrops in a 4x4-inch area and gently rub the area 2-3 times.
- Gently wipe your keyboard with the sprayed/rubbed area of the cloth to clean.
- Important: Be Sure to wait 5-10 mins for the wiped area to dry.
- You are now done replacing your keyboard with your new key cap.
- After drying for 5-10 mins, you can connect your keyboard to the computer/power and use it.
- Optional: Use the Kemove application to change the backlit color on your new key.
