In this Instructable, I will show you how you can make a Kangaroo Car Pouch. This is an easy, accessible way to organize your car. Put an end to digging through your console looking for a gum while you are driving. You can use your Kangaroo to store pens, hand sanitizer, gum, glasses, extra masks––anything you could need! All you have to do is grab it from the pocket.

If you are traveling with kids, you can use it to store snacks and toys too!

Take the 16" piece of bias tape and fold it over one of the 16" sides of 27"x16" piece of fabric. Pin in place and sew.

It should look like the 2nd picture when you are done.

Take the 2 5.5"x 16" pieces of fabric and hem one of the long edges with a 1/4" seam allowance. The hemmed side will become the top of the pockets.

Finishing the Top Two Pockets

Place the pockets on the 27"x16" piece of fabric. The side of the pocket with the hem should be closest to the side of 27"x16" piece of fabric with the bias tape (see blue circle). The wrong side of the pocket (the side with the folded over fabric) should be facing up.

The top pocket should be placed 13" from the top of the fabric to the unhemmed side of the pocket (see red lines). The second pocket should be placed 20" from the top of the fabric to the unhemmed side of the pocket.

Pin the pockets in place and sew the unhemmed side (see pink lines).

Note: the pockets should be laid flat. They are dog-eared in the pictures to make them easier to see.

Now flip the pockets up so the hemmed side is closest to the side of the fabric without bias tape. Pin and sew along orange lines.

Fold the side of the fabric with the bias tape up 5" and pin in place. Sew along orange lines.

Adding the Ties

Fold the 4 3' strands of bias tape in half and sew.

Place them on the pouch as pictured. Note: it is very important that the strands face inward like in the picture.

Adding the Back

Take the 20"x16" piece of fabric and lay it over the pockets. Line up the edges and trim any excess fabric off of the piece with the pockets. Pin and sew around the perimeter with a 1/2" seam allowance leaving a 5" gap unsewn at the bottom.

Turning It Right-side Out

Cut the corners of the fabric (without hitting the seam). Now reach through the 5" hole and turn the fabric inside out.

Sew 5" hole closed

Dividing the Pockets

IMG_1624.jpeg

Press with an iron and then divide pockets by sewing along orange lines (or elsewhere depending on how you want your pockets divided).

Note: It is very important that the pockets are completely flat when you sew. Otherwise, they will be all bunched when you are done.

Done!

YAY! You are now done with your Kangaroo Car Pouch. You can tie it on to the front or back of your seat depending on what you find easier. No more digging through the junk in your console for gum. You can know right where it is.
