K’NEX Optimus Prime

This is more of a throwaway project. I made this earlier in the year, but I scrapped it. That being said, these are the few pictures I took. So without further ado, here’s K’NEX Optimus Prime.

A bucket load of K’NEX!

K’NEX Optimus Prime is comprised entirely out of K’NEX. The front of the figure uses blue gear pieces to highlight the chest, the head is depicted using gray connectors, and light blue spacers. Apart from accuracy, articulation was also a priority. If you squint, you can see ratchet joints in the knee, forearm, and shoulder along with ball joints in the hand, and foot.

The back of the figure is comprised of the iconic smoke stacks. From the back you can also see the wheels on the legs. For the sake of accuracy, multiple red, gray, orange, and blue connectors were used here.

Optimus has many iconic accessories , before this project was scrapped, I decided to recreate his iconic energon blades. The energon blades are primarily yellow. They’re made of mostly yellow rods and connectors. If you squint, you can see that they tab into a slot just above the hand, into the wrist.

This is a comparison photo, I used the figure on the right as a reference for this project. I tried to keep it as accurate as possible.
