KISS Principle Apple Cider Vinegar
Again looking at self sufficiency and simplicity came up with this KISS Principle Apple Cider Vinegar
using minimal stuff and gear.
Vinegar is really good for all kind of uses from home cleaning to medical and even for medical use for pets.
For general health etc.
Supplies
Apples (you can use bio or any other )
Sugar
Water
Glass Mason jar (?)
Sieve
Coffee filters or cheese cloth
Bottles
Chop Your Lot
Wash and cChop your apples small you need to throw any bits away like pips and co just through
them all in.
Fill up your jar with the bits
Fill Er Up!
I used ten apples and you give a large t-spoon ful per apple, but wait! make a measuring jug full of warm water and add the sugar to the water. Mix it up and pour it into the jar, how much water do you need?,
if you are using a jar around 1 liter (Quart) with say 3 cut apples use about 800ml
I used a larger jar with 10 apples and 2.4 liters
the main thing is enough water to cover the apples. You will find that the apples try to swim to the surface
so I used a dish upside down to press them under the surface. Then I put a cheese cloth on top so no flys etc.,
get in but it can "breath".
The opions differ how it should be stored, dark, light, warm, cool,
I kept it in the office, relative cool but, not dark.
Stired But Not Shaken
You will notice it starts to bubble, this is fine this is the fermentation process working.
I used a chop stick to give it a good stir each day.
Let It Sink
After about two weeks you will see the the apples now sink to the bottom more, this is the time to take them out.
I used a sieve and pour in a bowl then with a cheese cloth I catch the apple goo and give it a good press to get as much juice as I can out. The left over goo gets thrown out.
Then put the juice back in the jar and cover with cheece cloth... and wait.
Filter
Wait another six weeks then using a sieve and coffee filter (takes long time) or cheese cloth
filter your juice or better your vinegar!
Done!
now fill up bottles and your done.
I cannot guarantee but if you store in fridge they are supposed to last for ages.
Dont worry if the mix is a bit milky or bits in it, its all organic and not toxic.
As to Alcahol content no idea but remember it is fermented but should be minimal I think.
Uses: put on fish and chips if your a Brit , for general health 2 tablespoons in glass of water and drink.
you can use it as a shampoo, etc. Just use google and you will see so many uses.
Hope you like it .
